Training
Denise has experience training horses for both western and english disciplines, including reining and cow horses, pleasure and trail horses, and hunter jumper horses. Training services are available to start horses under saddle, teach ground manners and trailer loading, and work horses that need more time and experience.
Denise follows and learns from trainers such as Dan Keen, Chris Cox, John Lyons, Clinton Anderson, Parelli, and more, and adapts their techniques to fit her training style. She demands respect from horses while providing firm leadership and praise. With her quiet training style nervous horses can remain relaxed, while lazy or pushy horses are required to stay alert and responsive.
Groundwork is essential in all training, including roundpen training and lunging, to establish respect and increase responsiveness. New experiences such as saddling are done without a deadline or timetable as to not rush the horse. The focus when riding a horse in training is establishing firm control and leadership with seat, rein, leg, and voice commands. Basic maneuvers common to all disciplines are taught- a light stop using just the seat, turn on the forehand and hindquarters, leg yield, sidepass, as well as collection throughout all gaits and transitions.
In addition to training the horse, Denise works with both the horse and owner/rider together. She believes there is no point in training a horse if the rider cannot put that training to use on their own. Lessons are scheduled throughout the training process to ensure the rider understands what the horse is learning, and can enjoy a dependable companion following the training.
